ABOUT US
On July 1, 2003, MYC was formed through a merger of the Madison Boychoir and Madison Children’s Choir. It was the Boards of Directors' belief that as arts education is cut around the U.S. and increasingly devalued in our own community, the programs and efforts of the two organizations do not just become unique – they become vital. And in order to guarantee the continuity of our programs, it was important to seek out a partnership that would strengthen our resolve to meet a shared mission, increase the impact that our programs could have, and create a dynamic cultural asset for the Dane County community.
The new partnership brings together a membership of approximately 300 families and offers youth between the ages of 8 and 18 the opportunity to participate in one of eleven separate choral groups (6 for girls and 5 for boys). The program offers choristers musical and social education opportunities through weekly rehearsals, annual concerts, music retreats, individual vocal coaching, and tours. The curriculum is presented in an environment of sharing, growth, and recreation, allowing MYC to teach discipline, build self-confidence, foster teamwork, and provide constructive activity and positive role models during formative years.
MYC also serves Madison and surrounding area audiences through public and private performances. The groups that make up the Madison Youth Choirs have regularly performed with outstanding area musical groups such as the Madison and Milwaukee Symphony Orchestras, and the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra. MYC’s choristers have also had the unique opportunity to tour Wisconsin and the Midwest, as well as much of the United States, and internationally in Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Germany, England, France, Japan, and Ireland.
