“Music taught the MYC way, which emphasizes not only the proper notes, rhythms, and techniques but also the feelings, expressions, and meaning of the text, allows the singers to explore the experience of being fully human.”
– Dan K., MYC alumni parent
Our Choirs
Madison Youth Choirs welcomes students with a desire to sing. Our ensembles value every voice and provide specific instruction to nurture each instrument in an environment comfortable for the student. How you join MYC depends upon your age. We have choirs for students ages 7-18, and we enroll new members in the fall, spring and summer.
Our choirs are meeting in-person this fall at our new, permanent home: MYARTS (1055 E Mifflin).
For kids ages 7-10, our introductory choirs provide the first step toward what we hope is a life-long journey of musical expression. Completion of introductory choir results in a recommendation for the best next step within MYC. Students ages 11 through 18 (roughly 5th grade and above), are invited to audition directly into our program.
All of our ensembles are organized around voice type, like sections of an orchestra are organized by instrument, and have names honoring either a composer or a musical term:
Introductory Choirs, ages 7-10
Tallis (he/him; they/them) and Colla Voce (she/her; they/them)
Performing Choirs (she/they)
Choraliers, grades 2-5
Con Gioia, grades 5-8
Capriccio, grades 7-9
Cantilena, grades 8-12
Cantabile, grades 10-12
Performing Choirs (he/they)
Purcell, grades 2-7
Britten, grades 5-8
Holst, grades 7-10
Ragazzi, grades 9-12

In addition to our traditional introductory and performing choir programs, MYC leads a wide variety of choral experiences in locations throughout the Madison area. See our Community Programs page for more information.
